Recently took possession of a 45 year old Mk1 Le Mans; changed tires; oils, brake fluids and the like…
naively went and drained the fork oil with forks on the bike; as per the manual, removed socket screw from Stanchion top bolt from either fork, to refill with 120mil of fork oil and blow me, almost impossible to refil without it taking forever…any trick I’m missing?

Any bright ideas welcome…or am I facing fork removal and dismantling to refill?

Cheers.

The oil is atf and for lubrication only, dont expect any difference in damping, talking of which, the oem dampers are absolute rubbish. You can either remove the forks to refill or you may be able to undo the fork tops and raise the front wheel slightly, which will raise the fork tops enough to get the oil in. The bolt youve removed holds the top of the damper to the fork cap, youll never get oil in without removing the caps. 45 year old bike... Id take the forks out and strip to examine as the oem dampers, if still fitted, could well have leaked empty.

Open top to add oil, won't go in bolt hole for top of dampener unless dampener is dropped out of cap. Drain out screw on fork leg, you do not need to undo bottom rod mount under axle. Simple, use any fork oil you have around and don't take much.
If it's mushey it is your dampeners & springs.
