Been haveing a few issues with anything much over 1/2 throttle , which is fine coz mostly it doesnt see that very often .
When I got this thing it came with k&n (type lookin )pod air filters and no sign of the original set up , any how ( after fiddling with my RD400 yam carbs ) it occured to me that fitting such filters would require larger main jets ( which is precisly why I was fiddling with the yam .... someone didnt and it seized..... yeah , I got it cheap :) ), when I checked the carbs were still fitted with the standard mains ( 142). Has any one fitted similar filters , if so a ball park # for the main jets and any tips would be much appreciated .
thanks
Hamish

I got a 1000sp , with K&N filters , i had few "issues" , turned out timing was off.
Got the timing spot on, problem solved.
Before messing around with jets, make sure the timing is spot on.
Then adjust them as per manual , and see how it runs.

Manual says

VHB square slide

Atomiser 265
idling jet 50
starting jet 80
needle v9 second notch
choke 40
main jet 142 750 S S3 and 850T 120 850T3 130 V 1000

mixture screw turn out

750S and 850T 2- 2 1/2 ( LH ) , 2 1/4 - 2 3/4 ( RH )

750S3 2- 2 1/2 ( LH ) , 2 - 2 3/4 ( RH )

850T3 and V1000 1 1/2

btw , my bike is happy with 135 main, the rest is stock.
your should fit ( as per manual ) 120 , maybe with open filters you can try a 125 or 130.
good luck
Marco

On my 1975 850T my mechanic replaced my old square slide carburetors with some bigger, new round ones with pod filters. Because the engine had been converted to 1000cc we thought that it would give better fuel uptake. I am very please with the results, especially as he also fitted some super teflon lined throttle cables and now the throttle is light and snappy instead of wrist wrenchingly heavy. I don't have the specs of the carbs to hand but I can find out if you are interested.

Now I just need to work out how to lighten up that clutch!

The 850 T came from the factory with no airbox or filter, just stacks. Fitting the cone air filters should help. When I had a T I just added the cone filters and no re-jetting was needed. However, you may want to check the needle position and raise it if you can. Also be sure you have the correct atomizer and number needle. If the atomizer and needle have been changed I'd suggest going back to the stock sizes.

I have my 850T with K&N filters pods.

In WOT was running a little bit lean, so I changed the dellorto main jets with 150 mikuni main jets (they fit).
I did not have dellorto spares at the moment, and have a box with mikuni jets so I though it was worth to try them because changing main jets on VHB carbs is easy.

After that the engines performs perfectly, it is noticeably more powerful than my Stock T3 California.
