i just bought a 1999 California 1100 and i have what i think is a fuel problem.I compression tested and got 155lbs on both cyls. The bike loses power and bogs, sometimes dies. The left side spark plug was black and looked fouled.im buying new irriidium plugs ,ordered getting soon, but i think this may be FI problem or possibly TPS problem .Any hints you guys could give me ?Thanks jim

Before you go chasing anything, when (if at all), has the injectors been professionally cleaned? If not, start there; Pull and have them done at a local shop or; RCEng.com

The right had a little blackness to it but its not misfiring ,the left is the culprit. And to Gt-Rx i havent had injectors cleaned and i dont know when if ever they were cleaned.

Sounds like an over rich condition. Possibly something keeping injectors open or a bad pattern and not burning properly. Considering the age of the bike, having the injectors cleaned will eliminate possibilities. It isn't expensive and RC engineering does excellent work at a good price.

New developments. I put new irridium hotter plugs in and 5 ounces of seafoam. Now i can get full power at times. I wanted to ride so i took it for 20 miles. When i hit a bump she winks out for a second or two, and sometimes shell totaly bog down after a bump. i downshift to keep her going and she'll go down to nothing and come back slow sometimes.Im thinking fuel pump maybe connection?

Does this model have the kick stand switch?
I've seen those kill the engine after a bump.

Ok i have to look to see if it has kickstand switch.I however found a broken wire to the fuel tank level sender.so far 4 parts outfits dont have it.Ill keep looking.I also need to say the bike came with a junk piece of crap ,not oem gas cap it doesnt make a good seal at all , could that affect performance. thanks all

i dont see a kickstand switch

Ok just noticed that the air intake is going through a kevlar hose that is a jet engine look on the end and also the right side hose is missing completely, could this explain the erratic performance.Any one know what these air intakes were ,aftermarket?

Whenever a fuel injected bike is modified like that there is hell to pay to get it to run right. Either locate and install a stock air intake or contact Todd for custom fueling. If the bike has the P8 ECU (not sure when the change to the 15M occurred) it will be much easier to go back to a stock air intake.

Ok guys thank you for your help I think i absoultely found the problem. The battery terminals were loose! The battery was going dead not starting bike so i checked them and found loose.Tightened them, took bike out and no more cutting out on bumps.Im a happy man right now Thanks

once again the KISS method (keep it simple stupid) wins in the end.
next clean all of the fuses and the relays before the next electrical problem pops up. better still replace the relays with new ones.

well it turns out the problem came back after riding the bike more today.Bike felt like it went to 1 cylinder and weak at that.I took the tank off, i know the air box is gone but there are 2or 3
small nipples under the tank itself, most likely for air to be vented into the air box.I dont know what to do with them ,whether to close them off or just leave them open.I think the petcock maybe be not right. It is a screw type. While i was taking the tank off i noticed it was not screwed into tank well at all.Im going to clean it.I have a new tank sender coming because the wire was broken to it.im isolating this to fuel problem or maybe coil pack.I have a new fuel pump coming. Thank you for all help Jim

Ok back after much labor and help locally.I found a man who knows bikes and was willing to help me with the Guzzi. He took the bike and found 3 shorts where the wires rubbed the frame. The gas was also old and the tank was dirty
I put in new fuel pump, new fuel filter, and some good coils. After all this was done the bike runs well now.there is still a little popping but he said to run 3 tanks full of gas through it until we see if all clears up.I rode it today and went about 30 miles and she runs great, full power. I once had a suzuki 1100 Gs and the guzzi is faster than that bike
