Living in California we have a lot of aggressive - tailgating drivers that cause me to look in my rear view mirror every time I make an aggressive stop. So I decided to try something to wake up the typical Californian, texting, talking on the phone, putting on make-up, half-a-brain driver.
The process was relatively painless.
1. Removed the seat and rear seat support plastic closure (the tall bolts) to gain access.
2. Guess at the connector (the one with 3 wires) disconnect and using a multimeter verify which wire was the brake light ---verses the ground and running light.
3. Pull the brake side of the connector light up through the slot made by the seat support black plastic piece to be able to work on the wires. Then cut wires and crimp on the leads from the Backoff. --- I was to lazy to solder the connection but did use heat shrink crimps to keep most of the water in in storm.
4. Ground to a bolt that gives a decent ground, test, double stick to the inner fender neatly and re-assemble.
Now I get five quick flashes then a steady light. It was not a difficult project and took 30 minutes of being extra careful. --- I have this thing about splicing wires into factory looms it's a verify, re-verify and measure twice thing.
