The “fuel pipe” that drains from the air box (Part AP8144038 from table 28 in the spare parts catalogue) Does it need to be plugged or can it just be left open.

My plug has managed to escape  and I’m probably happy enough leaving it open if I can.

Were it me and I couldn't find a plug that fits. I would use a small screw and leave it at that. Unless you don't care that oil is on your rear rim or garage floor.

The way the airbox is designed, if you leave the plug out it will allow unfiltered air to enter the engine through the hose. Now I know that it is a small hose and not all that much air will be going through it but I would prefer all the air that gets sucked into the engine passes through an air filter first. Also as the previous posted stated, there is the oily mess that will get onto something.

Harley Davidson works the same way in that it scavenges oil and blows it into the air filter.

*We would run that hose away from the air filter down below the frame and often attach a small
VW Beetle after market air filter (approx 3 in diameter) at the end of the hose to catch the oil and filter it out little by little. Still drips but not alot.

Thanks, that's the bit I was concerned about, I'll re-plug it.

(The garrage is an oily mess anyhow from leaking rocker covers and oil filters  )
