Angeles Crest reopening

Nice Bob, so "end of this month" is pretty much now. I'll go snooping around some more, and post again if you hear of it officially opening.

Tsk...tsk...tsk.....Safety Bob.....

REALLY....you're gonna put your faith in a bridge held together by epoxy paint????????

Hey wait a minute. Being a full figured guy myself I felt it was only right to let you boys know that when Crumpy and I are talking about others we don't throw out "stringbean" jokes or go "the plane, the plane".:woohoo:

That country looks a lot like the road to the Blue Duck hotel and the Mitta Mitta river north of Omeo in Victoria OZ. A lotta rock on the uphill side :eek:hmy: and a bloody loooooong way down to the riverbed below :eek:hmy: and no cellphone reception for miles and miles of long switchbacks with the occasional sandy or stone srewn cnr. Its lucky you can get a cold ale and a feed at the Duck!

Kym the beanpole in Oz

1)Larry, you aren't nearly as "full figured" as Crumpy, as you know, & you aren't the one who made the Safety Bob remark. So what has this got to do with you?
2)Kym, True on the lack of cell phone reception up there, a loooong way down lots of places, & a fair but not huge amount of rock debris on the road at some points, mostly after rains, but swept clean often enough, & more long sweepers than tight switchbacks, by & large. Still, when open, 50 glorious miles in each direction of wonderful riding, very close to the LA metro area. A sin that it has been closed to through traffic this long, reopening way overdue.

So, maybe I missed it amongst all the back and forth, but is the road actually open and has anyone checked it out yet in person?

-Tim.

No, not open yet, but as the link to the CalTrans publication indicates, the biggest job, the bridge across the big washout, is pretty much done, just some other odds & ends yet to do. Should be this year late spring/early summer barring unforseen difficulties.
