Add another cracked crossover pipe to the list. I guess it's a blessing in disguise that I took my exhaust system apart to polish. Would have hated to have it in pieces during a ride. Looks like I have some welding to do. IMG 0907

I have had that happen a few times, re welded the cracks, ended up that the entire anchor bracket broke off... so I left it off and it has been great ever since... I replaced the original huge pipe with thee Mistral cone, so the weight really has no bearing on that section.

looks like a fatigue crack . seen similar on supports under tension and also subject to vibration ,
if you mount the pipe as is ,you might be able to find which fastner causes the tension [process of elimination ]
you could pack it out with a spacer . if the crack doesn't widen any longer ,weld it up.
works for us about 90% of situations.
if anything it will give you longer between fixups.

Add it to the long list of problematic Y-pipes for Grisos and 2V Norges. They will continue to crack, no matter how often welded, due to the brittle stainless and too hot/fast of a welding process. The solution of eliminating the bracket once you replace the muffler would help.
I offer several solutions including my Left and Ride Side slip-ons (but not my Megs, as they use the stock Y-pipe) on the online Store; https://www.guzzitech.com/store/category/exhaust/griso/

I'm prepared to weld them each season if necessary. Agostini has a nice titanium crossover for about $300 if necessary.

Oops, I meant stainless. AF1 Racing...

Here's a pic of where the original crossover broke. Maybe (??) the warranty replacement crossover will hold up, Not expecting miracles, however.

Ok, I bought some .035 308L FCO Gasless Stainless Steel Mig Welding Wire off E-bay and it seemed to work pretty good, but not perfect. The learning curve with this material is steep. It seems you can't push the puddle very much as it tends to run on it's own and the beads are pretty wide, about 1/4" or so. I tried multiple settings and ended up letting it bleed on down the cracks. I blew a few holes in the pipe and made some large repairs. Wish I had a practice piece first...

What I do like about this wire is that it doesn't need gas, is really SS and there was hardly any splatter. The price was a bit high but under $50, which is cheaper than the speed shop quoted me.

I ended up grinding the heck out the welds and polishing them. My welds look like Frankenstein scars but they shine nicely and will be hard to see under the bike.

Come warm weather, we will see if it holds. I think it has a good shot.
