has anyone fitted a stainless armours exhaust system. they are uk based and seem reasonably priced. visually they're very similar to the originals. i'm still trying to sort my poor 4k rev running problem. i've tried just about everything else. the keihans fitted seem a bit over baffled especially as the bikes running on k&n air filters and the jets have been changed to 1.3 to accomodate this. or could it be the lucas rita ? we've done the carbs ,timing, valves, fitted new coils, checked the bores, new head gaskets etc, etc , etc. i still think it could be the silencers so will have to scratch that itch even if it is an expensive experiment. so if anyone's tried armours exhausts i'd be interested to hear before comitting :S

I run a pair of Keihan Busso replicas on my V1000. They are virtually straight through giving no restriction ( you can see daylight!) and they sound great, look good and are also made of stainless. Did I say that they sound great as well.

It sounds like you've done everything but what myself and others in the forum suggested you do! Its great you checked the rings and valve timing and replaced the coils but it likely boils down to either the carbs or the rita unit.

K&Ns don't typically require a change in jet size unless they are over-oiled - especially given you are running 30/32s.

1.3 is to me a meaningless number. The number for the main should be three digits - like 132. I don't run 30's so don't know what the correct jetting is but others do. The jets are cheap- it is not a bad idea to get an assortment either side of standard so you can find the optimal jetting. If you do change jets go up or down one size at a time and see what happens. The dellorto tuning guide which you can find online has a good description of what part of the carb does what at what throttle opening. Read it.

Do you get a big blue spark with a plug grounded to the engine case? Did you put a timing light on it and check that the spark timing is correct?

I wouldn't worry and the timing gears until you get it running right and I highly doubt it is the exhaust - if the exhaust is restrictive the first thing is to dial the carburetor in accordingly.

This is not to discourage you - its great your getting stuck in and by the time your done you will know the Guzzi intimately and appreciate how clever it is.
