Avon Tire review for the 2.15 x 18 rims

I've been using Avon's Road Runners and Super Venoms on my bikes for years and was very happy with the handling, wet weather riding, and wear/durability. Avon has discontinued the R-Runnerss & S-Venums for 18" wheels and replaced the lines with the Road Rider. I had hoped that most of the characteristics would be the same, but I found one exception. The Road Riders dance around on rain grooved roads. This is very annoying and dangerous at high speeds as well.

When my buddy replaced his tires on his LeMans III, I recommended that he try the Dunlap GT501s. Well the Dunlaps handle fine and don't dance around on the rain grooves. But the rear Danlop is about 1 cm narrower than the Avon. The next tire on my list to test is the Metzler 880s. In the past the Avons out performed the Metzlers for durability, it will be a year or two to find out if that is still the case.

I hope this is the case for you but I have great luck with the metzlers. I had Perrellis on it when I got my SP II. They were great except for the wondering on bad roads.

I have Bridgestones on my Le Mans & want to put Avon Super venoms on it as I have had agreat experiences on these tyres on another bike. Did you at any stage run the Super Venoms front & rear?

Been very happy with Macadams for both my T3 & 1000S for quite some time. There have been times when Michelin has not always had all the sizes I need available in the US, at which times I have found Road Riders similar but not lasting quite as long. GT501's would be my third choice after the other 2. Seems to me 880's aren't available in the necessary sizes for the skinny 2.15 rims-unless you are going to take a 110/90-18 front & run it backwards on the rear.

W, I ran a set of Super Venoms on my Hardtailed '66 Triumph and at about 15psi they outlasted me puttin' up with the hardasst ride, the bike handled great even the rain. I think I fiqured about 17,000 miles on those tires ( sans speedo on that Bike ).
