Some help please MG experts on B11!
In the parts list for the exhaust, it appears to have a gasket between the head and the exhaust pipe. I don't seem to have one?

Is it a gasket which goes into the recess portion of the exhaust port at the last point on the head and seals up against the clamping ring? It looks to me that there should be a gasket with a cross-sectional area of about 3mm square.

There is a raised section within the exhaust port, about 10 or 15mm in.

Help!!!

Cheers

The exhaust gasket often gets squished and molded into the exhaust port to where it appears to be part of the port. It typically goes right where the pipe goes into the port. It would be right at the end of the pipe between it and the port, often in a pocket where the port is enlarged so the pipe fits in. From what you said I suspect that raised lip you are seeing may be it. Often to remove it you have to use a tool like a screw driver or a pick and pry it out. But if it is not leaking I would leave it alone. If you do not have an exhaust gasket the exhaust will likely leak noticeably. If it does not leak you probably have an exhaust gasket and it is working.

Thanks for your reply Guzzimoto. Since my post I have found a picture of the item on MGcycle and now know what I am looking for. The reason I started the investigation is that I had some bad resonances at various revs and this was one thing I looked at.

From the picture I saw I would think that the aluminium gasket should be basically the same diameter as the clamp ring welded to the exhaust pipe.

Further investigation warranted today.

Will let you know further.

Cheers

Thanks GuzziMoto, you hit the nail on the head. I was expecting that the gasket was between the clamping ring and the head.

They are buggers to remove. It would appear that there was slight leakage at the gasket/pipe interface.

I now have a couple on order from Tom Newell in Brisbane.

Thanks, Cheers

The bad resonances I referred to have been found.
The colostomy bag, BREVA 1100, was vibrating against the centre stand. I liitle 'adjustment' and no more bad resonance!!!

Cheers
