I've been cruising the Interweb for MONTHS looking for a good set of saddlebags for the G5, but I give up. I don't want hard bags, and I don't want to install a frame on my bike and ruin the way it looks when I'm not on a long trip. What do you fellas use? Suggestions?

Thanks!

jzeroe,

On my 1000SP, I use MG G-5 hard clam shell bags mounted on the G-5 rack for around town and for touring I replace the hard bags with soft denier bags. The soft bags are 25 years old made by GSM (British?) apparently the manufacturer is kaput. They're squarish and work well.

Keep looking, but in the mean time get a set of inexpensive bags like the Cyclegear Bilt bags for $49, eventually you'll find bags that will suit you better; especially if you go to rallies.

Good luck.

I use a set of thermos style bags on my G5. They are small and very handy around town. I am goin on my 1st trip with them in August... 2000 miles. We'll see if they are big enough.

Touring Europe I used a set of Givi soft bags on my LM3 and they were fine. Only thing is that nowadays most bags are made for monoshock so there are clearance problems on dual shock machines. I got around the problem by fitting 'custom' spring gaiters.

Nice album of your Euro tour , ''I never liked 'em Bergues either ''that's classic stuff. My bag used to rub my shocks too that's why I wear a truss now.
Oh BTW I use Vetter Saddle bags and take them off when not in use and just use a Marsee tail and tank bag. The Vetter frames are not real noticeable.
