I just pulled the battery from my '12 Griso and found this mess. I'm using a yellow foam spray from O'Reily to clean it up and it appears that the terminal (negative) is bare copper. The positive terminal looks great.

Now that I have it all apart, any thoughts on best practice here? Should I just put it all back in with the new battery and hope? Or are there some upgrades?

Thanks-

Yikes. Maybe there are lots of good products out there, but I always found that putting some baking soda and water in a cup and just sticking the terminal wire in it works surprisingly well. Let it soak for a while and maybe pull it out and give it a brush with an old tooth brush, too.

While you have the battery out, I would clean the whole area with baking soda and water.

Once clean, put some dielectric grease on the terminals (or just vaseline) after it's all back together.

Ahh, the woes of liquid lead-acid cells...
Upgrade to a pre-activated AGM battery and kiss green fuzzies goodbye forever.

I sold Interstate for 25 years, an independent dealer for half that time. Their motorsport line used to be Yuasa with Interstate stickers on them, good batteries. Then Johnson Controls bought them out, moved manufacturing to Mexico and suddenly all Interstate car batteries are Exide crap. I warranted more in the next two years than I had in the prior 20-plus. And if that weren't bad enough, their moto line was suddenly Taiwan sourced, all liquid lead-acid, activation required. Pfftt...

I became a Deka dealer three years ago, sell more motorbike batteries than auto and have only warranted one unit so far (car battery).

I am very pleased so far.

And the best part is their pricing allows me to be very competitive, matching even Internet pricing when I must.

For now, I rate Deka motorbike AGM batteries second-to-none, even to mighty Y.
