Bellagio H&B Rear Rack

Great post, thanks!

I've attached your "How-To" PDF below as well.

Thanks K9. forewarned is forearmed as they say (but I'll need another set of handlebars for the extra arms!).

Now you have the rack fitted, what in your opinion would be the best way to attach panniers: throwovers, use the separate H@B side racks or adapt something to fit using the top rack as a foundation????

About to order the bits for my Bellagio so your opinion appreciated.

thanks for this, we have the H&B rack (for my partners bellagio) but not fitted yet. The dealer told me it was a 1 hour max job!!

Is that a tin of chain lube down by the stand?

Cannot answer your question, but when we're at it; chainlube is excellent for lubing the stand bushings. It'll penetrate and stick to where it's added for a long time.

I racked up my Bellagio last week with the H & B Rack and also their Leather Bag Holders. Jims advice was accurate and helpful. In my case I found only one of the pinch fittings needed linishing down to size, the factory appears to have used two different size tubing for the frame. One pinch fitting fitted perfectly, the other wouldn't go in at all. I had to grind about 1mm off. Forwarned I had the 20 mm screws on hand. The rest was easy.

The Hepco and Becker bag holders did not have instructions in English but the pictures were clear enough and all was easy. I did find one problem with the bag holders first time I rode the Bike: The lower support on the left side is designed to be fitted to the bolt thru the rear sets that also holds the muffler. Moto Guzzi have carefully fitted a rubber bush to allow for movement and isolate vibration from the muffler from the rest of the frame. The bag holder initially fitted direct on the bolt and when engine was fired up the whole bike had developed a noticinle vibration that initially made me think something expensive was wrong! Once I worked out what had happened, solution was easy: drill out the mounting hole in the support to 12mm. fit the hole with a short length of 12mm OD, 8mm ID rubber hose and reassemble with a rubber washer 20mm OD x 8mm ID fashioned by splitting an appropriate sized grommet. All is sweet again.

I was disapointed to see that H & B had labelled the rack as "5kg max". Not a particularly large payload from some quite expensive hardware. Unsure if the limit is a reflection on the strengh of the rack or a safety warning advising against becoming too top heavy.

I now have a top box on the rack and need to decide between hard or soft panniers, plastic, leather or fabric. then it's off into the countrside on my Bellagio Tourer!
