So I was cruising down I-75 heading for Daytona Bike Week when I ran over something ( heard it more then felt it ) and 30 seconds later the bike starts getting squirrely and during the few seconds that I was in denial of what was happening the speedo started flashing along with the warning light and then the throttle started to retard and I thought to myself ( as I was trying to stay upright and get to the side of the interstate ) "Damn I'm impressed", on how quick the bike responded to what just happened....I guess I really need to read the Owners manual and see all the neat thing this bike has to offer.
Now I have to decide if I want to replace it with another Metzeler or something else being I'm not sure if I should be disappointed on how this tire got so "easily?" punctured or how impressed I was the the tire stay beaded to the rim and made the bike quite manageable to get to the side of the road?

Plugs work on round holes - not going to work on that slice.

My son and his buddy were trailering their bikes a few cars behind me so I had instant road service. We loaded the bike up and we spent the next 4 hrs of the trip making phone calls trying to find a replacement tire at shops/dealers along our route to no luck. We did drive by a Harbor Freight store where I picked up patches, spoons and for good luck a Bead breaker, we ended up patching the tire that night to which I ran around Daytona bch with it for 3 days with no problems. Bike is home now and I'm on the phone getting ready to order another tire. On a plus side I did run into another 1400 owner while I was cruising around Daytona. I also got about 1000, "What the hell bike is that" everytime I got off or on my bike, It was a great!!

Considered putting a tube in the old one to get some more mileage from it ? Peter
No
Like Scott said unsafe
There was severed steel belting/cord protruding out of the slit so I don't trust the long term integrity of the casing. The patch bought me three days of Daytona ( city ) riding so I'm grateful for that. I'll probably hang the old one in the barn and write "Bike Week 2022" on it LOL

The last time I attended Daytona Bike Week was in 1984 and 1985. It was beyond fun.
2001 for me. Haven't been back because once you've seen 5,000 flashing boobs, you've seen them all!

Went as a dealer with BMW Motorcycles. Had a blast except they gave us all the dreaded (and doomed) R1200C motorcycles. That was not a good motorcycle at all. Hated the damn things. >:)

And boobs are beautiful too!
Some are better looking than others, but I've never seen a pair that's made me mad!😄
