Hi, I was just wondering if the bevel drive casing on a Cali 1100 could have the paint stripped off and be polished up to look similar to an Eldorado one, has anyone done this or is it possible?
John.

Why would you want to? Once the paint is removed you have to keep polishing the thing as it will continuously oxidize. I'd rather ride than polish.

Yes, it is possible. It's a lot of very dirty work that I prefer to leave to a pro. Most professional metal polishing shops will want only the case - no internal parts. So you'd have to disassemble and then reassemble it after polishing. Might be a good time to have it precision shimmed and resealed by Charley Cole at Zydeco Racing: http://www.zydecoracing.com

To keep it looking nice, give it a coating of "Shine Seal": http://www.caswellplating.com/buffs/zoopseal.html

The original owner of my SP1000 had the swingarm and bevel case chromed. I'm still trying to figure out why anyone would do that. Gilding the lily. I think the bare aluminum Guzzi castings are just beautiful on their own. If I'd spotted that in the picture on Ebay, I would have run away, since it would have had to be completely disassembled to be polished and chromed, then put back together. It seems fine, but "Chrome don't get you home".

Steve is a great guy. He specializes in making engine castings look better than new.

Forgot to mention that with crating, shipping and his fees, you'll be in the $$$$ big.

This is likely the route that I am taking a resto / mod LM MK1 that I am doing.

Demon's in Cheshire I think so postage should be a good bit less

I used Steve to do engine and Gbx on an LM 1000. He charged less than he quoted and the finish of the casings on return were fantastic.

I hate engine paint I am tidying up a sport 1100 engine right now and all the paint has flaked.............it looks s**t.

Later that engine too will be headed to Mr Smethurst.
