Went to ride to work on Thursday last week and notice a distinct puff of smoke from the right hand side by the fork leg as the bike started, I killed the ignition and had a closer look, started it agian ans saw afew small sparks from under the fuse box.

Ignition off again, along with helmet, gloves, jacket etc and closer look showed a wire trapped between the fuse box base and the frame. SO with few tools I simply pushed the wire away from the frame and proceeded to work and then home (100 miles later) keeping an eye on that area of the bike, just in case.

Saturday allowed me to pull the body work off and remove the fuse box and sure enough a chaffed wire.

Cleaned up and small piece of self amalgamating tape and a piece of rubber cabled tied to the frame to stop it happening again.

Body back on and all ready to go.

Glad it happened here and not in Croatia or somewhere further afield!!

I'm glad it was a wire chaffing Jon, at first I thought you meant it was somewhere a bit personal and I was about to recommend liberal use of talcum powder or sudacreme :D

That thread is on another forum :D ........I'm in heavy cycling training at present for a major ride in the lake district in 2 weeks........112 miles and 11000ft of climbing.....so there is a bit of that as well but no photos :D

You might want to have a look here too more chaffing. Got back this morning after bit of green laning along the Suffolk coast, lost headlights stopped charging, then dash display disappeared. The loom had rubbed on the frame gusset by steering head right side cutting into two wires, blown fuse number3 (I think) wires repaired fuse replaced measures take to stop it reoccurring and away we go again
