Since I managed to tip over my new to me 2006 Breva in my driveway, I decided some engine guards were a good idea. I bought a set of the Hepco Becker guards and I am in the middle of installing them. Before I do something incredibly stupid (a good way to learn, but quite expensive), I though that I would ask a few questions. The HB instructions are not particularly comprehensive.

The engine guards mount at two points, a lower bolt extension and an upper mount that reuses the existing bolt. I have already installed the lower extension bolt assemblies. Do I need to support the engine while I remove the existing upper bolt? It appears to be a major engine support. Maybe i'm just over-cautious but I would rather not find the motor on my garage floor. Also these existing upper bolts are incredible difficult to loosen. Is this typical?

I also have an question about the stock saddlebag mounts. My Breva came with the Moto Guzzi/Aprilia saddlebag mounts but no saddlebags. Since the stock bags appear to be very expensive and I already have some 40 liter HB Juniors, it makes sense to buy HB mounts. But I need to get the existing assembly off the bike. The existing mounts at the passenger footpegs fasten with two bolts, one hex head and one that is domed. There appears to be no easy way to remove the domed bolts. Does anyone have a suggestion? Was this meant as an anti-theft device?

Thanks in advance. Since this is my first modern Guzzi, I feel like I am working my way up the learning curve.

For the upper engine guard bolts, just do one side at a time. The engine won't fall out. Do use blue loctite on both the lower and upper bolt mounts.

For the saddle bag bolts, the domed one is probably anti theft. Use a dremel tool and cut a slot in it then use a screw driver to remove. I'd use a square shank screwdriver with a wrench on the shank to get enough torque. Be sure to press in so the slot doesn't get deformed. It won't be easy but it should come out.

Posted after John did above... Always good to support the engine when pulling a major motor mounts, but if you pull one at a time, probably not needed.

Thank you very much. I already used blue loctite on the lower bolt extensions, so I will do the some to the upper bolts (one I get the suckers loose).
