Hi All knowledgable folk. I've had oil leaking head gaskets ( not to be confused with valve cover gaskets) on 05 Breva 1100 for some time , both sides + with only 20,000 km on the clock now , everyone thought this unusual . So I purchase 2 new head gaskets , spent hours removing tank airbox etc etc . Finally got the stubborn Hex head screws loose with an almighty crack , and removed the cyl. head. It proved that it wasnt a leaking head gasket after all as there was no sign of a gasket ever fitted there.
Very oily combusion chamber , I expect oil is coming up/ down the studs and going wherever it likes . including out. Should I put o rings on the base of the studs as well as on top of the rocker mounts?
Is this a Friday build or what ? aussiedave

With the head off this is the time for all new o-rings and base gaskets. If it is like other big blocks, you will need 12. See the parts manual in the resource section. Yours must have been made just before vino break and Luigi was in a hurry!!

Thanks John, for confirming it was probably Luigi , not me going blind. As for o rings , I trust the parts list as much as Luigi. Rather have honest opinions from people who have experience ! My barrels have a rebate for o rings, but there were none . Probably needed , but hard to keep located as this model ditched the traditional "short studs" the o rings would go over before dropping the barrels down, Mine has long Socket cap screws going down from the head. Will look deeper with bright torch and strong glasses ( of vino ?) to see if they are blind holes or not.
Dave
