Gotta sort an on going start problem where you press the starter button after dials light up etc then nothing. Battery already replaced and terminals clean. 30A relay spades cleaned, wire connections to bottom of 30A fuse holder waggle solid crimps. Aux fuse holder fuses clean reseated. Eventually the bike starts after multiple attempts. Anyone know steps to troubleshoot starting sequence with a Volt meter, which connecters to check when you press the starter. I have no errors in the ecu logs.

I don't know why but my Griso likes a little rest between switching on & starting. Its like I have to warn it its going to have to wake up, get out of bed and get going. Even after that it often insists on having the kill button pushed before the starter button will work. I put it all down to Italian lethargy.

Nel,

I had a similar problem with a customer bike. It was posted on the previous forum. It was an intermittent open at the 30 amp fuses. Just because the crimp is solid, doesn't mean it is conducting properly. I'd also swap out the 30 amp fuses just to be sure. The bike displayed the similar instrument check, but would not start at all.

Yes i agree I toggle the kill button ignition key until it fires but the time taken can be minutes as though some signal isn't syncing.

Thanks again John Z, just read your reply. Your advice is invaluable to us UK DIYers. I'll try some tweezers in the bottom of the 30A holder to pull the crimps out witha view to replacing them. The 30A fuses certainly corode a lot.

I had that exact problem on mine.

It ended up being a dirty connection where the wires plug onto the starter button on the handle bars.

Pulled them off, gave them a good clean and off I went.

It has happened again since, and again, clean the connections and drama gone.

cheers

Thanks rob. I will be cleaning my starter button contacts tomorrow. Yes the handle bars are exposed and cleaning the starter contacts button contacts might avoid an RAC callout (I just joined because of this problem). Did my tappets for the first tappets in 30 000m. Mostly still at the .15 exhaust and .10 intake factory setting.

Thanks again all contributors to this thread.

A general pointer.
Whenever you work on any part of the bike, and see an electrical connector, pull it apart, and spray with Servisol or similar. (Then plug it back together of couse). I have always done this, and so far have not suffered the usual issues with poor connections.

Had the same problem with my 2005 Breva, it would be fine for weeks and then nothing. After 10 - 15 minutes and repeated trys it would deside to start. I removed the starter button and found slight corrosion arround the spring in the switch. The wires in here are tiny so I presume its very low voltage to the CPU, so the lightest of corrosion may stop the current flowing.

The bikes been prefect since, and its only a 5 minute job, the switch just pops out of the casing with the help of a small screwdriver, be careful you don't lose any of the bits.

Bronco.
