Looking at website for C5 ignition mentioned in "Bought back My Old 850T" thread:
http://www.c5ignitions.com/motorcycle-ignitions.html
Have some questions on what gets replaced. Maybe C5Paul is listening.
Does it come with special coil(s) to replace stock Marellis?
Is the standard advance mechanism used, or replaced electronically? I see mention of four different maps, so I'm guessing it's electronic.

So it sounds like the C5 dynamically adjusts the dwell or ON time, of the coils in addition to advance, based on RPM.
The idea of electronic control of advance is tantalizing, since I only recently read the section of Guzziology on timing advance and springs (yuck). My SP is running better than it has in a long time after I set it for full advance using a light at something like 4000 RPM. But it means that I'm just accepting whatever the obviously imperfect advance mechanism is doing at lower RPMs.

Thank you for allowing me to assist.
Although our kits vary greatly on how the ignition is installed, we never use stocking timing parts (advance weights and springs).
Accuracy of mechanical timing parts is not acceptable and age certainly does not help.
On the dual point Guzzi kit we remove the timing parts inside the distributor, install a billet aluminum adapter, and mount the ignition on top. The stock cover sits onto the distributor and does not look much different than stock.
You must always use our ignition, coils, and spark plug leads as a set. Because of this, we only ship a complete kit. Unless a customer requests something specific, we provide a Single Fire coil (has two windings inside a common body). It is a Section Bobbin design.
Our coil saturation is rpm based, as is the timing map. There are four (4) individual maps programmed inside, and you can change maps even while riding. The coils are "rated" at 80,000 volts but we do not allow them to reach that value. Each coil sparks 3 times per compression stroke to increase performance and efficiency. This is a Single Fire system (not wasted spark).
Customers in the Guzzi world notice reduced vibration, improved performance, and faster starting. This is a common observation among all users and we believe the multi spark is responsible for this. The electronics are manufactured in Iowa and we make all adapters here in Wisconsin...land of cheese!
