Hi Folks - could do with some help - whilst polishing my 96 Cali 1100i I noticed the reglator was too hot to keep your hand on! - the weird bit is that the ignition was OFF and the bike had not been run for 24hours!

Was running OK but does drop onto 1 cylinder occasionally - dont think this is connected as its only after long periods of over-run.

I have just got the bike a week ago - it has only done 13.5k miles, less than 1 k per annum ! - battery is a new-ish Odyssey job and I have put it on trickle charge (NB have disconnected it from the bike)

Any ideas where to start? - I am leaning toward the regulator itself as ignition off.....italian electrics, love 'em ! :)

Are you saying the thing was hot despite the fact the battery was disconnected from the bike? Or did you disconnect the battery only after your discovery? In that case, how was the battery level?

Sounds like a leaky rectifier/regulator diodes to me.

I bet your bike has tenths of mA (probably hundreds) parasitic drain if you measure it with a multimeter.
