I have an o6 cali ev that suddenly stopped on me without warning. Checked there was fuel, it was low but after adding 5litres from emergency can still wouldnt start. So had it relayed home. Charged the battery. Still no go. I checked there is a spark and the fuses. I used a centurian diagnostic kit to check pump, injectors and coils. All good. Next, lifted thetank and sprayed volatile fluid into the air intakes. Engine started for a few seconds. So that means fuel is not being sprayed into the engine by the injectors, right? Looking for advice on how to check the injecters or do I need to send them to a specialist? Thanks.

A few possibilities.

Fuel pressure low from pump or pressure regulator problem, fuel line disconnected internal to the tank. Since it was running and she stopped, I doesn't sound like an injector problem.

Lift the tank and disconnect the fuel line from the fuel pump plate, this can be tricky so read up on that in this forum. Put on a temporary line to a container of some sort. Plug the pump back in and see if she pumps. If you can get a pressure gauge on the temporary line, I believe the output pressure should be about 3 bars (45 PSI).

I disconnected the fuel line from the tank (pump) and turned the engine over. No fuel being delivered. Checked there was enough fuel by tilting the tank forward until it leak from the pump spigot. So, that means the pump has failed, right? Or is there something else to check, like a relay? Btw, when I turn on the ignition I can hear something priming or getting ready for about 2 seconds, but I have no idea if that is related.

John,
Is there a relay that controls the injectors?

There is a power relay for the entire injection system, but the injectors are controlled directly by the ECU.

If the pump was in fuel, than more than likely, but the sound you hear is the pump motor. Probably an internal hose problem. Anyway, the unit needs to come out of the tank for a good inspection and test.

Good luck with getting the pump assembly out, is is a real bear. It is even worse to get it back in.

Are you anywhere near a dealer?

I have actually replaced the fuel level which is attached to the fuel pump assembly last year so I know as you say, what a bear it is!

Before taking the pump assembly out I checked that fuel could flow out by tilting the tank - it ran out easily enough. Then I cranked the engine over and - no flow. So, next step is to remove the unit and look for not sure what! Maybe a pinched pipe.

My money would be on the pipe between the pump and filter which has come off. Relatively common fault, but I think there is a new hose available now which should be better.
It is part number GU03106170 and includes 2 Oetiker clamps. It has a corrugated appearance.

Brian, you were spookily correct! The pipe between the pump & filter had indeed come off. See the pic - ignore the fact the filter is dangling, it was strapped to the assembly - I cut it off to aid removal. This is a crazy thing to happen. I have never owned a vehicle that vibrates clamped hoses off! Hence your comment about the replacement hose & more serious clamps. I think I have some clips the right size so I'll be using those in the re-assembly.
Just to make sure it was the hose coming off, I reconnected the hose & wiring, cranked the engine & hey presto - fuel being pumped. So pleased to have found it! Thanks everyone. Now I just have to get it back in...which is harder than getting it out I know from experience. Quite why Guzzi made these so desperately tight to insert, lord only knows. I have visions of the assembly guys drawing straws to see who would be on fuel pump duty that day :lol

All back together again and running! Assembly went back in no trouble this time. Made sure all clips and cables were not sticking out. Phew. Now, about that oil change....
