California 1100i Flywheel Position

I have a 1996 California 1100i that has sheared the flywheel bolts from the crankshaft, to rebuild it the manual says to set the flywheel to the mark on the crankshaft but mine has no mark on the crankshaft.
The only mark is an arrow on the outer edge of the flywheel and a V on the engine casing to bell housing flange near the flywheel sensor, (When these are lined up the sensor trigger is in line with the sensor).

My question is; how do I set the flywheel to the crank, am I right in thinking that if I set the pistons to top dead centre then line up the outer mark on the flywheel to the V on the engine casing this will be right?

Any help would be much appreciated,

Correct. Set up the crank so one or other of the pistons is at TDC, ease dictates that you use the one where there is the V shaped slot in the case but ou can judge it on the other side, there ma even be a 'tit' on the case? (Earlier cases has little tits on both sides of the case. About the time of the advent of the 1100's the case changed.) then align the mark/arrow on the flwheel with the case, (Bugger me keeboard's just bust! The letter between x and z has disappeared! That'll be fun!!!).

If the bolts sheered it is because the had come loose. What drives the flwheel is frction betwixt it and the back of the crank. All the bolts do is appl clamping force between the two. MAke sure the back of the crank and face of the flwheel are undamaged and use loctite on the bolts when doing 'en up.

Just some additional information. The mark on the crankshaft is to indicate the position of the crank pin. If you can determine the pin location in relation to the back of the crankshaft, you can place a thin mark of paint in that spot (tat is all the factory does). The arrow on the flywheel is to line up with that mark. Since you are going by the manual, I'll also state that the dot on one tooth of the pressure plate also lines up with the arrow on the flywheel so the springs line up correctly.
