Ideas please. Just covered 170 miles on my new (to me) 1100i California 1996 vintage. Noticed a squeak coming from front forks on uneven road surfaces (bumpy) but seem fine on smooth roads.
Wasn't sure where the noise was coming from until I stopped and bounced them up and down. Bike rides fine and does not appear to suffer any handling issues but the squeak can be annoying.
No oil seal leakage and no sticking so not sure of the cause.
Can anyone shed any light on the likely cause?
Thanks.

Check that triple clamp bolts are tight, and steering head bearings are adjusted correctly. Movement in those areas might result in that squeak.

Sourced the problem. Was not front forks at all. Noise was coming from rear and was caused by a too long bolt having been inserted to secure silencer and rear pillion footrest bracket. The bolt was coming into contact with swing arm occasionally and had caused a small groove. Reversing bolt and fitting a domed nut has cured problem. Completed job with some metal filler and Hammerite paint and now perfect and no squeak! Thought it was just my bike but a friend with the same model has exactly the same problem and a deeper groove so worth other Cali 1100 owners checking theirs too.
