Hey GT,

I’ve come across a 94 California 1100i for what I consider to be a fair price (1500) w/ 28k miles. I currently have a 93 Cali III w/ 81k miles and am considering it as an upgrade. The owner says that “sometimes downshifting from 5th gear is difficult, sometimes you have to slow down to around 20 mph before it will let you downshift, other times it shifts fine.”

I was wondering if the transmission from my 93 Cali III would bolt up to the Cali 1100?

I don’t have much if any experience working on transmissions, has anyone encountered a similar issue as the one described? How are the transmissions to work on?

Does anyone have any experience riding the two bikes? Any opinions? I find myself wanting a little more power.

Thanks for your feedback, happy riding!

Gear boxes are the same, but I think the speedometer drive at the back is different. The final drive ratio is different. Your CAIII runs tubeless, but I think the 94 1100i needs tubes. If you want to try the CAIII wheels on the 1100i you will need the CAIII spacer in the rear drive of the 1100i. They are relatively easy to swap. 5th gear has it's own fork. It may be damaged or bent. If just a fork problem easy to fix. If not the fork someone would have to go into the box quite a bit.
