Just got it firing!
Hello all, just joined here a week or so ago after I came across a rather tired California Jackal....
It hadn't run since 2005 and spent quite a lot of that time stored outside so in a fairly sorry state, I haven't even ridden a Guzzi in more than 20 years and, being honest, not that keen on 'cruiser' type bikes so the plan is to see if I can get it running and then decide exactly what to do with it....thinking a mild custom build.
Theres a lot of corrosion and both guards would need a lot of work....
The throttle linkage seized solid....
and the relays (and fuses) all rusted solidly in their sockets....
The linkage freed off fairly easily but the relay/fuse board is going to need replacing.....luckily I've found a source for the sockets and terminals; carbuilder.com/uk/micro-relay-holder
For now though I've cleaned them all up, enough to get everything just about working (bar the neutral light!)
With a new battery the motor turns over and I did a quick comp test, 93 and 96 psi.....not good!
I squirted an acetone/diesel mix down the plug holes and left it overnight....next day 165 both sides!
Next jobs will be an oil change, some fresh fuel and see if it starts.......
