Hello all, just joined here a week or so ago after I came across a rather tired California Jackal....
032
It hadn't run since 2005 and spent quite a lot of that time stored outside so in a fairly sorry state, I haven't even ridden a Guzzi in more than 20 years and, being honest, not that keen on 'cruiser' type bikes so the plan is to see if I can get it running and then decide exactly what to do with it....thinking a mild custom build.
Theres a lot of corrosion and both guards would need a lot of work....
IMG 0103
The throttle linkage seized solid....
IMG 0099 2
and the relays (and fuses) all rusted solidly in their sockets....
IMG 0100
The linkage freed off fairly easily but the relay/fuse board is going to need replacing.....luckily I've found a source for the sockets and terminals; carbuilder.com/uk/micro-relay-holder

For now though I've cleaned them all up, enough to get everything just about working (bar the neutral light!)
With a new battery the motor turns over and I did a quick comp test, 93 and 96 psi.....not good!
I squirted an acetone/diesel mix down the plug holes and left it overnight....next day 165 both sides!
Next jobs will be an oil change, some fresh fuel and see if it starts.......

Hi, if its been resting such a long time I would suggest you also change the fuel filter so you are sure fuel will pass to the injectors.
A bit of a fiddly job but always worth the time and money!

Thanks, yes I've bought new filters inc the fuel and had injectors cleaned, main issue currently is the relay board.....everything seems to work but only by 'jiggling' them in their sockets....I can get it to spark but no feed to pump....then another time pump works and no ecu feed! I've bought all new relays and the sockets they fit into but haven't got around to fitting so far. Btw does anyone know why it has 4 relays with one part number and 2 with a different one?
I've started a bit of custom work....going more down the 'bobber' route!
I happen to have front cycle wing moulds for a Westfield 7 sports car.....just the right shape except 3" too wide....made one up, cut a strip out of it and glassed back up....then topped off with a good old Lucas tail light!
Front is another mould I have....not sure what but possibly an 80's Honda
Also fitted a small nosecone and narrower bars (off a 50's BSA)
Other work will be to relocate footrests up and back a little, fit a more interesting pair of silencers and raise the back end about an inch....
None of that took much time so assuming I do get it to run well enough I'll do a full strip down....powdercoat.....plating.....wheel build....paint etc

If you make changes to the intake and/or exhaust you will need to have the ECU remapped. Check the store for fueling options.
