Hello to all on this forum. I have just joined the tech forum. I have a 98 Ev that have been having a frustrating problem. The bike will start fine & run great, then next time it will not start. I found it did not have a spark in the ignition so that was the reason. Now the problem. I checked all connections. Then it would start & run fine. I rode the bike for a while, all is good then stopped for fuel. NO start. Haul it home. Starts fine. This has gone on for a year & a half. Frustrated! Finally one time no start I happened to bump the cam sensor wire & the fuel pump came on. OK, that is odd. The bike started just fine. Finally YES THAT'S THE PROBLEM. ITS THE CAM SENSOR. Must be the wire to the sensor is bad. Now I can ride not wondering if it will start or NOT. So, if you do not have a spark check the sensor or wiggle the wire to the sensor. Just thought I would let you all know what I found. Thanks!

when I had a 98 I made it a habit to remove and clean off the end of both the cam and flywheel sensors every 5000 miles. a piece of metal on it can make it misread. the other thing is a dirty TPS. some fuel leaks into it after a long time sitting then evaporates leaving it sticking. It took a long time to figure that one out and sometimes you'd pull into a gas station running fine then there was no spark when done filling the tank because the TPS was stuck open. remove, flush with contact cleaner and reset.
