Can you stand one more Hypro Spring question...? ?

Is there an actual amount of oil to put in the fork legs of a Norge when swapping out the springs for the Hypro units instead of that silly measure the level of oil type procedure...?

Also, you're gonna love this....

Do the springs go back in the leg with the more tightly wound section on top...?

Thanks much,
Rob

That silly measure the oil type procedure is the most accurate method. If Guzzi gave the dimension that's the method I'd use in preference to measured volume.

Sorry... actually got out and rode today.

Per the *measurement* provided in the instructions... it comes curiously close to 500ml per tube, yes, and they provide 1 Liter. ;)

I woke up this morning thinking about this measurement, like Todd I actually got out to ride yesterday and evening, wow... But I digress....

The 500ml quantity hit me, isn't that ALMOST a liter.... ?

And my apologies for asking about the direction of the spring, in haste I breezed the instructions and some how missed that call out.

Too easy to freak out and ask youz guyz.... sorry.

Thanks, going back together now... Well, soon... Gotta go pump the forks 10-20 times... ;)

Best,
Rob

Yeah, so it's all buttoned up, just like anyohter fork service... Road test in the morning, report in a day or two.

Thanks,
rd

Ok, first ride with the new fork springs...
My morning commute over roads that I can compare the old ride to. Some twisties, sweepers and bumpy surfaces. The very first thing I noticed was the firm feel when taking the m/c down off the center stand... someone else had mentioned that also.

The very firm, more planted feel is instantly evident, no squishy feel in the left hand, down hill turns and a more stable in all curves.

I'll take a nice long after work blast and analyze the new set up...

So, Spring Preload...?
The manual that came with the springs states "5 TURNS FROM MAX"

Well is that five (5) turns OUT from seated (down) or five (5) turns IN from out all the way...? ? I set them three (3) turns OUT from seated down all the way to try it out, the stock set up was Two (2) turns out from seated down.

Thanks,
Rob

Mike C,
No idea why the progressive end goes up...?

Mike

Like you, I've no idea why the more tightly wound end goes to the top. Ohlins don't use progressively wound springs and many suspension gurus shun them.

Anyone have an opinion on this setting...?

Thanks,
Rob

Spring rate is the same either way.Tighter winding=more mass. You want the more massive end of the springs closer to the sprung mass. Unsprung mass should be as light as possible....not that it makes any difference whatsoever on a 600 lb Guzzi...

Ehat the hell does that mean...?

Is that you ed...?

Talk to me in English please...

The instruction booklet included with the springs stated five (5) turns Out.. does that mean turned clockwise to seat and then turn c-clockwise five (5) turns...?

It feels good set at three (3) from seated but if it should be set at five (5) I will try that...

I happened to bring a 17mm wrench to work with me too... :)

Yes, that was Ed.

Rad, yes, the spec is 5 turns from max/seated... HOWEVER/More importantly is to measure the sag, and set it in the specified range or that which is equal to the rear shock sag. Make sense?

Hate to sound like I don't what you mean but... What do you mean, check sag...? Sorry, my suspension expertise are not as sharp as you and Ed's..

How do I measure the Sag...?

Thanks Todd and Ed... :)
