Hey Fellow Guzzi Mavens,

I am in the process of having JE Pistons make the highest compression pistons they'll make for my LSR V7 Sport. Amoung the data requested, they wanted a cast of the combustion chamber. I've never done that before and it turned out OK without destroying the head.

Another plus was a trip to TAP Plastics... I can't get enough of that place.

Anyhow... Here' are shots of the casting process. If anyone wants to do one lemme know and I'll give ya the benefit of my hours of experience... welll 30 minutes anyway.

Here's the head with resin in it. I used a cable tie to ease unmolding:

Here's the final product. I added the red color but I guess I didn't mix it enough:

That was fun! Looks like an Alien with huge bug eyes!

It's fun when you get to play with putty like when you're a kid, eh?

Fun. Keep us updated.

Hey Geodoc,

That #240 750 MPS-PG is a Triumph eh? Running modified frame, partial streamline. I like that fairing. Do you know who made it?

Thanks,

Tonerjockey

Woohoo! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

That was a real good one!

yeah ..................... the belly-tanker thing is very cool. It got me to wondering about the whole cultural thing w/ origins in Calif. about that time. Beat poetry - literature, surf culture, hot-rod culture, Hollister biker, film noir thing .............. so on. All of a piece in some way.

As to the fairing. I asked Tom about it and it started out as a Toy knock-off, but very much adulterated / glorified. It's soon to get yet more modified for next Bub Bonneville.

Right now, he's putting in overtime to get the engine ready for a T150 Trident entry in 750 P-PP. Also some kind of 1920's V-12 Rolls coming in to get some engine work.

Shouldn't be too hard to do better: the cowling behind the rider is too low and the nose isn't long enough. Check out an old dolphin Guzzi wind tunnel dustbin fairing for an idea of what to do... ;)

Remember, for the hobbyist LSR competitor, the fairing can be a one-off, single skin home layup. LSR racing favors heavy bikes [better traction, no handling penalties], so you don't need exotic CF/kevlar sh!t, in fact, it mostly works against you [$$$]. Polyester resin on glas, all laid up over hand-formed foam blocks glued in position will to fine, and iterative testing can be done w/ just the bare foam until the final form is decided on.

Best of luck! Wish I had the time & finance$ to follow suit!
