Charging output for the V7 Stone

I'm from Virginia and attempt to ride as much as I can.

I used to have a Stelvio but after 3 sets of cams and tappets I had to let her go. The Stelvio had a robust charging system and had not problem powering up all my Gerbing gear (jacket liner and gloves). The V7 on the other hand has a piss poor charging output.

Does anyone know whether there is a aftermarket charging system that could be installed? Probably need something in the 450 watt range.

Thank you for your time in advance ;)

Kurt,

As far as I know there isn't one for the late model permanent magnet systems. However there are for the older Bosch/Saprisa charging system bikes. You do have 330 watts available so you will have to carefully calculate your accessory load. Start with lights, then see how much you have left over. I'd shoot for at least a 20 watt reserve in your calculations.

The Guzzi 750 holds onto many archaic design features. It's a dinosaur, and that's one reason I love it. What I'm talking about is that the alternator is crankshaft mounted, so it turns merely at engine rpm, just like the old days. No belts or gears to make it spin faster.

The performance is less, but there's less to go wrong.

How much of that 330w is actually available? I was looking at the Clearwater lights. 50-70w total on high.

Outside of the headlight/tail-light, most of it. The Clearwaters are LED, correct? If so, are they really using 50-70w?

Yes, they are LED. The model I'm looking at is 24w each light on high. Regular usage would be less than that.

I've not bothered to add up any system loads/draw, but I HAVE used a Widder heated vest and gloves on my Stone with no problems. Similarly my little bro has used I THINK Gerbing Jacket Liner and Gloves on his V7C with similar no issues.

With that amount of light (4 times a standard Halogen on each one) you stand a good chance of being wiped off by the driver coming the other way who is completely blinded.
Just my opinion.
