I am rather embarrassed to ask such a basic question regarding checking oil level in my 2007 B750. Yes, the bike is upright, though the center stand cants it off to the right ever so slightly (before the center stand installation my petite wife held it upright* !). *(just while I checked the oil, not all the time..)
All of my other bikes have/had either vertical dipsticks or a sight glass, but the B750' dipstick is more horizontal. Am I to think that the dipstick should be inserted concentric with the opening and bore and touching the base of the cap to the outside of the opening and carefully, symmetrically, removing said dipstick to ensure a level read...?
Or can the dipstick just be "dipped' at an angle down into the sump to get a "read". I am rather apprehensive about letting the oil level get too low, but I always seem to need to top up the dang thing when I check with a lineal bore insertion/removal. So what's an accurate read on these? Am I being too anal, or is a deft hand not needed to check the oil? (I wish to afford a sump extender but an answer to this question might negate the need.) Just thank the stars that the oil I use has a red tint to it.
