Tuned and Synch'ed
Hi, all -
I have not been on the site in a while - partly because I've experienced several years of unreliable starting on my 07 Norge 1200. The issue is not the battery. I've gone to great lengths to clean the leads - they do show sulfate buildup that has to be scrubbed off. Sometimes the bike will just "tick" but not turn over. Sometimes it will turn over but not start. Sometimes it will neither start nor turn over. But sometimes, after topping off the battery and scrubbing the leads with a wire brush, it will start. Only a couple of hours later, probably not.
Speed's in Elkridge is working hard to solve the problem, but so far, no solution. We've ordered a new starter and starter relay.
But I'm thinking that the problem may be in the battery leads or in the electrical harness. The bike is kept in an underground garage, where it can get moist after rains outside. I'm frequently surprised at how much crud appears on the battery leads after even a short time in storage.
I'd be grateful for any recommendations. I love the Norge - when it runs - but that now is uncertain, at best..
Thanks -
Bob
