Clutch Chatter

Well, a week ago yesterday, the stars aligned and I got the Stelvio back from getting the clutch replaced. Thanks go to Todd for getting me the back ordered thrust needle bearing. AF1 also discovered the clutch lever was cracked and broken and gave me a break on the almost $200 price.

Next month, on the 15th, I am going to tempt mother nature and ride it up to Estacada, Oregon from Wimberley, Texas. Hopefully I'll steer clear of snow and ice by staying south and coming north once I hit California's Central Valley. That will leave me with just one mountain pass as I get into southern Oregon. If all goes well I will get there in 5 days. I'm so excited about a long ride.

Welcome on the bearing, and exciting times ahead. If I can be of any help on the trip when passing though SoCal, my shop is in Orange, CA.

Wow 2,000 miles in 5 days. You are adventurous for the time of year.
I started riding in 1974 in Virginia way before goretex was invented. I never had a car until 2015 when I bought one for my partner to use in Oregon. I think my mornings will probably start out with temperatures in the upper 20's for at least half my days. The wind screen is horrible for summers in Texas but will be very handy for this ride. My first cross country ride in 1980 was brutal. Riding in the Virginia mountains didn't prepare me at all for riding in the Rockies. August temperatures were around freezing in West Yellowstone and Bryce Canyon and I was camping.

Well I ended up having a great 2400 mile ride. I timed it well and got to Oregon the day before it snowed along IH 5. My last morning was 31 degrees with fog when I left Grant's Pass, Oregon. The transmission is smooth shifting again.

We were out west riding during the third week of September a couple of years back. We had stayed in Afton, Wyoming one night and when we started out in the morning, the temperature was 26 degF. We rode down through Utah, and as we rolled into Provo, the temperature was 86 degF, biggest temperature swing I ever rode through. I was in my Aerostich Darien gear, and my wife in a full Rukka outfit, and they worked all through the day ....
