Clutch Rod Won't Spring Out: '13 Paperweight, er, V7 Racer

I wish my first post was to talk about how f#@king awesome my '13 V7 Racer has been. But this is the exact opposite. I've had clutch problems since I bought it new from Pro Italia (Glendale, CA). Like some other members, I've had the clutch adjustment problem from the start, where adjusting at the lever wasn't enough, had to go to the adjuster screw at the gear box, and now I've found this forum and discovered that I may have f@#ked myself by doing that. I ended up having the adjuster screw all the way in and the last time I rode it, the bike was still moving forward at red lights, even with the clutch pulled all the way in.

I now have the rear tire, swing arm and clutch lever removed. The clutch rod/shaft appears to be pushed all the way in, and it doesn't spring back. I can pull it out and it looks straight. But whatever is supposed to push it back out when I let out the clutch lever isn't doing its job. I'm about as deep as I can go without taking the rear gear box cover off. I'm wondering if I should keep going to find the issue, put it back together and find a more knowledgeable mechanic in the LA area, or put it in a boat in a lake and shoot flaming arrows at it, giving it a proper viking funeral.

When it was under warranty I took it in to Pro Italia where I bought it, on three different occasions complaining about the issue. All they did was adjust at the lever and put an insulating boot around the clutch cable so it wouldn't rest on the engine. Now that it's out of warranty I'm realizing this is a much bigger issue.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate them. If I have to remove the engine or anything like that it'll be time for a professional or a viking funeral. Thanks in advance to the group!

Eric, I'm in Malibu and my shop in Orange to be of help. I've been fixing the problems of most of those in SoCal.
