Confused over Cali 1100 fork seals

Demon said:
The top of the stanchions has a bit of rust where the clamps hold so I didn't want to risk that cutting the seals, the milk bottle is soft plastic and only thin, that's why I used it as a barrier, is there any chance these seals will bed in with use or are they shot?
Regards,
John.

I use "Gladwrap" (think plastic food preparation film), especially for the lip of the stanchion which can cut into the seal damaging it. Unless your milk bottle is considerably much thicker and has distorted the seal, I can't see why this should hurt. Try slipping a thin feeler gauge down between the seal and the stanchion to get a feel (no pun intended, I guess this is why they're called feeler gauges!).

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!

Trust me to get a ****ing backwards rat! The mofo at the bike shop has rammed in the flat 10s... then told me that the seals SHOULD be...

40*52*7.5/10.

And can I find these buggers anywhere?

So far this has cost me £60 and Im no better off than I was.

I've just measured a set of seals that were in my original 1996 California 1100i (don't ask me how I have these off the bike  ), and they measure exactly what you are stating here. There's no way I would call them 7mm thick (on the part of the thickness that is held in by the clip).

Possible, but I wouldn't count on it..

It's built now so I think I'll give it a try at bedding in, I've nothing to lose and the neighbours can't take much more bad language emanating from my garage.
Can you let me have the measurements of your seal driver in case I have to re-do the seals?
Thanks,
John.

Here are the dimensions of the tool. It is grey plastic pipe about 24 inches long with an OD of 2.375 inch and an original ID of about 2.0 inches.

The end turned down has an OD of 2.176 inch and ad ID of 1.94 to a depth of 0.529 1nch. This end is for insertion of the seal.

The other end is for insertion of the dust cover. The OD is unchanged and the ID is about 2.03 inches to a depth of 0.5 inch.

Good luck.
