Crankshaft end play ?

I'm about to install the crankshaft gear or sprocket on my 1975 850T I'm concerned about the amount of end play ( or lack there of ) as I was tightening up the nut. My manual mentions nothing about what the tolerance should be.
 
There should be little to no end play. I hope you are using a bow type cam chain tensioner. All the gears go on at teh same time with the chain. Usually a two person job as I have someone hold the tensioner back with a flat roofing tool.

My main concern is when I tighten up the nut by hand there is no play. Do not know how tight the nut should be as for how many ft. pounds of torque. I'm afraid to tighten too much and cause damage to the bearing and or crankshaft. Yes I'm using the tensioner you show in picture.
 
I checked several workshop manuals and could not find a torque value for that nut. I get them pretty darn tight when I do them. You don't want it coming loose. I make sure to have the engine so it can't turn over. If the engine is out of the frame, mount the flywheel and use the factory older to prevent the crankshaft from turning. If you have no end play, but the crankshaft will turn you are OK.
 
I shoot for .008" end play when everything is torqued down. There seems to be no published torque figure for the nut, so I use the closest one I can find - the transmission layshaft nut, which is 115 to 129 ft. lbs.

When installing the bow type tensioners, I find it easiest to remove the plastic "shoe" from the bracket, install the bracket, then the sprockets and chain. Finally slip the "shoe" partly over the stud, pull the spring into position with pliers and then slip it the rest of the way on.
