Can anyone tell me what the liters per 100 kms reading is governed by? Until recently it has been pretty stable, not varying much but the last week or so its been fluctuating all over the place from zero to 90 and everything in between.

Really can't answer your question directly. However, for me the dash indicated mileage has always been nothing more than a vague suggestion, & I always calculate actual mileage at fuel fillups (assuming the odometer is accurate, which it seems to be as far as I can tell). So my question would be, is the ACTUAL mileage significantly different from what it has been. Put another way, is your bike actually getting mileage different from what it has been which would indicate a running issue, or is this strictly a dash readout issue, & therefore a lot less important?

I don't generally pay attention to all the stuff that the electronic dash does. This paticular function caught my attention because it started to fluctuate all over the place after being relatively stable since I bought the bike. So I was just curious if anyone knew what system it was tied into. I am assuming it is somehow related to the fuel pump and fuel level. On average the mileage seems okay, just seems odd that the only function being screwy in the dash is the average fuel per/100 kms. you would think that something else would also be acting up since the dash is all electronic.

Bob,

There are two positions that give you this value - one is average and the other is instantaneous. I suspect that you are now looking at the instantaneous setting. This can be set to the average one by pressing the single button on the L/H bar switch assembly. You probably just bumped it and now it is reading instantaneous.

The pieces that contribute to this number are:
- Speed; and
- Fuel Metering through the Fuel Injection
