Dead battery in 8V already?

My commute's 6 miles roundtrip

I'm betting this is the issue. Starting a motor is a heavy load for a battery, and it needs a good amount of time to fully recharge the battery. Doing this twice a day (to and from work) will significantly drain the battery, wearing it down over time.

My advice, take the long way to work...

I still think this is not a battery issue per-se.

If it cranks and then the cranking slows and fades? That sounds more like a starter motor problem. the cut-off system means that if the battery voltage drops below a certain point the whole bike has a hissy-fit and shuts down. If the starter cranking speed is slowing down, but continuing, that means there are still ample amps and voltage but something isn't right.

Despite the fact your journeys are very short I can't see this as being the problem. I really can't. Even a ten minute running cycle should replenish the battery adequately for it to start again, and again, and again. Having said that using something like a Griso for that sort of trip is pure abuse and will cost you in the long run. Buy a Kymco scooter for the commute or a bicycle! It'll save you money and if you get a bicycle it'll help you stay fit.

I would tend to agree with pete.

When the battery is dead, the ecu prevents starting. your problem lies elsewhere.

Quick update..

I installed a new battery. Battery now shows a full 13.0V charge after a ten-fifteen minute ride. Overnight, charge is at 12.4 in the morning.. But it charges back up to 13.0.. Previous battery would drop to 11 or so. Over the Thanksgiving weekend (Happy Belated Thanksgiving!), the old battery was at 9V! In my new battery manual, it states that anything below 12.0V the battery should be replaced, as it can no longer hold a charge.

A related question.. Is 12.4V normal after the bike has been sitting for about an hour?

Use a 1.25 or an Oddysey 3 amp charger. I heard never use a 750mv charger. Not strong enough. Load test battery.
Wire brush terminals and baking soda/vinegar mix. let dry. Sand the inside edges of terminals.
I did this with my battery when it only clicked and and some smoke came off the Neg post when I hit the starter button.
After a second cleaning more of the green tarnish came off. It started right up.
