Deciphering Griso 8V VIN

Based on what I know (could be wrong)

ZGU = WMI (World Manufacturer Identifier) = Guzzi
LS = Griso
000 = Version variant (could be alphabets and numbers)
0 = free digit (value from 0 to 9)
Y = Year of manufacturing (please refer to the table below)
M = Production Plant, M = Mandello del Lario
111111 = Serial Number, Guzzi count from 111111 = first bike.

My VIN for example:-

ZGULSE0339M111269

ZGU - It is a Moto Guzzi (obviously)
LS – Griso
E03 - version
3 – free digit (I have no idea why it is a 3)
9 – Manufactured in 2009
M – Mandello del Lario (pheew)
111269 – 159th bike of E03 version

I also found out that there are 6 different types of Griso versions:-

ZGULS0** = Griso 1100
ZGULSC** = Griso 1100
ZGULSE** = Griso 8V
ZGULSU** = Griso 8V
ZGULSJ** = Griso 8V
ZGULSG** = Griso 8V

I suspect the first alphabet of the Griso 8V version code denotes countries with different emission requirement i.e. E = Europe, U = United States, J = Japan and G = Germany (?)

As for the remaining 2 number of the version code, when I cross checked at the Guzzitech Registry limited entries, I have the conclusion as follows:-

00 – Base model
03 – SE (Special Edition)

Please contribute your VIN to this topic so that I can further fine tune the information I have on hand.

The 9th character is actually a check digit.

To calculate the 9th character, the following algorithm is used for calculating check digits:
Each letter is assigned a numeric value.

Each number or character value is multiplied by the factor for that position.

The resulting products are summed.
The total is divided by 11.

The check digit is the remainder. If the remainder is 10 then the check digit is X (Roman numeral 10). Now I finally understand why some VIN has a X in the 9th character :idea:

I got 388 for my VIN, divided by 11 = 35.27, rounding off the remainder = 35.3 thus the ninth character of my VIN is 3.
