Detonation (spark knock, pinging, etc) when hot

A possibly related development:

Under some hard acceleration tonight (texting audi driver right on my ass) I got definite popping in the exhaust. Hmmm. I pulled hard away from the next light, and there it was again. After a short ride I pulled into a parking lot, blipped the throttle and there was a pop.

I'm thinking the air pump may have something to do with this. The V7 III has one, too right?

Will you be revising the re-map? How does your current map work with the V9?

Devil on one shoulder:

Todd's remap and agostinis.

Angel on the other:

Keep your warranty and maybe get some nice luggage.

Since passing breakin, I've been pushing Racer much harder. No pinging that I can hear, but this engine loves to rev with the Agos and the map from Todd. There are times I look down and realize it's oh so smoothly doing 5000 rpm plus and sounding great.

It's NOT a motor to lug around with big throttle at 3000 rpm or below. Let it spin where it loves to be. In this it's a bit different from my old big block motors... :)

Recently, during a ride on a hot day, I had to use 91RON fuel - nothing else available when I needed it. Sure enough I was able to induce pinging under load. The sound in that video is NOT pinging! When the V7 pings it makes the usual old fashioned pinging sound I described earlier. And btw, 95RON is specified in the user manual for a V7iii.

There's not a lot of choice of fuels in my neighborhood. Just like with my Mercedes SLK280, I just use premium grade in Racer from the gas station that I know has relatively new, clean tanks. No pinging yet, despite days during break-in of 100°+F (37-38°C) when I was constraining the max revs I'd use. Now I just let him rev, rev, rev whenever it feels right and the chance of detonation is much less.

My V85 TT makes the same noise only when it's really hot and under acceleration. It doesn't matter how much throttle I give the bike, it makes that same exact knocking sound under the right conditions. It started happening after 3k miles. I adjusted the valves and updated to the most current map and I'm still having issues.
