Do I have an oil leak?

I just noticed that there was a bit of oil on the inside of the chin fairing of my B12S. On closer inspection, I found that there's oil on one of the braided hoses to the oil cooler and it appears that the oil came out of one of the openings in the plastic part that covers the front of the engine - see photo below. There's no oil on the floor in the garage.

Should I be concerned?

Yes you have an oil leak. I suspect it is the front crank seal. You need to pull the front engine cover (the one behind the alternator belt cover) to replace the seal. Removing the alternator belt cover will give you a good view of what is going on.

Interesting, thanks! The bike is essentially brand new - just got it two months ago with 9 miles on it. It's done around 300 miles to date.

As far as I know it is still under warranty so I'll have to take it to Pro Italia soon! How difficult a job is it to replace the crank seal?

I'd say not difficult, just time consuming. You have to get quite a bit out of the way to remove the front engine cover.

Yeah, well NOS, the 12S was not imported after '09 (??). It was sitting around all that time. You must have bought this at a dealer? Take it in for warranty service. If you do the job yourself, read up on the belt replacement.
