I've grown up on jap bikes, and doing wheelies on them. My 02 Lemans was a wheelie monster, with of course a roper sloppage plate and plenty of oil. My 07 Griso does great wheelies, right up till the rev limiter cuts it out. Other than increased wear, is there any serious damage doing wheelies on shaft driven bikes? I dont dump the clutch, I just roll off, then roll on the throttle and bring it up and let it rev to the limit, quite fun actually..... if it just wears out the bits sooner, i'm good as my bodlly bits are wearing out sooner rather than later, but if its catastrophic, well, I may limit my wheely activities.... Any input is appreciated.... I will of course continue to wheelie Pete's Scura for purely test purposes....he would want it this way

The only time I've seen significant damage from a wheelie was when a squid on the Ducati came down too hard and broke the frame at the steering head.

Re:Does wheelying do significant damage to the gri

I'd counsel caution. Only do wheelies on Roper's bike for a few years to see if anything breaks.

Re:Does wheelying do significant damage to the gri

thanks mario, he has one of his sloppage plates installed, and MPH put in the clutch, so this is clearly the wheely machine.... I will document the test plan so that others may learn, but it is the ideal bike for testing purposes..... Of course, you will need to chime in on the proper oil for wheelyin and of course, if any other oil is needed in the trans or bevel, your input is appreciated...

VIDEO... VIDEO..... VIDEO!!!!!

Re:Does wheelying do significant damage to the gri

my two copper is you don't on a shaft drive

now admittedly thats a hangover from what a mechanic told me about an old XJ650 I had and it didn't stop me outright and maybe its ok on these new CARC drives, but I don't do 'em on the Mk III's 25 year old shaft...

Re:Does wheelying do significant damage to the gri

MG have a couple of 'em in the unofficial Stelvio video ... and clearly no one told Charly Boorman you don't do wheelies on a shaftie either.

But then, as Sam said. Until we see proof, one can't do wheelies on a Guzzi. Oh wait, that was HD ... :silly:

Even a fat bastard like me can wheelie a Guzzi!

And here is Bruce on the championship winning Raceco Daytona- same day. Extra 50hp and and a lot less weight over the V11.

The 8V will come up in 3rd with a bit of persuasion:laugh: Not something I do often, but.............

Nah, it won't do a lot of harm I shouldn't think as long as you use a little bit of sense, oh, hang on, its you.........:woohoo:

Thanks for the input, but them wheely picutures posted aren't wheelies, their pics of the front wheel off the ground, a wheely is someghing approaching 90 degrees to the road, the butt puckering time when you wonder if you will land on your back. my cali will do those types of wheelies, I'm talkin about then straight up wheelies, which are really fucking fun, and a bit spooky. Roper's scura starts out with the gentle rise of the front wheel, and as the revs rise, it just gets higher until common sense of fear causes me to roll of the throttle. His scura as well as my distressed lemans did better wheelies than my griso. It starts off great, stands straight up, then hits the rev limiter and drops like a rock..... but i'm not abuzing pete's scura, its for the science man....

i did a few wheelies on mine when i first got it and enjoyed them but the last one i did it went mad and veered off ,no doubt dued to my lack of skill since then i cant do wheelies on the griso but now youve brought the subject up i think its time to try again.

I've tried and tried and aside from dumping the clutch in first I haven't been able to get the Griso up.

So what's the secret? Explain in detail??? Please?
