Can anyone tell me if the collars on the downpipes come off when removed from bike? It looks to me as though the inserts have been welded to the pipes on the inside stopping them from comming off.I want to get the downpipes colour coated but want to keep the collars as they are.Anyone ? Thanks. :p

Interesting question. Because most of the aftermarket exhaust systems are simple slip-ons I've never had the need to remove the headers off an 1100 Griso yet. Looking at the parts site it looks like the pipe ena retaining collar are one piece.

The the thing is that I HAVE had the exhaust system off my 1200 and I know that the collars are separate but looking at it's parts page it also shows the collars as part of the pipe.

That being the case my guess is that the 1100 retaining collars will also be separate, just not available as a separate part.

Obvious thing to do is order two manifold gaskets and remove 'em and see!

They will not come off, just checked the loose 8V set I have.

Yup, Todd's right. The collars are loose on the pipes but are put on to the top end of the pipe before the outer skin is crushed down and then the flange is welded on so the collar will float about only in the area between the flange and the broader area of the outer skin.

Thanks guys,i`ll have to see if they can coat the pipes without getting it on the collars.
