Christine wanted to try out her new lenses, and the Easter parades here, were a perfect opportunity for her.
So we headed off to find where the procession of the day would start from.
OK , we followed a bunch of people in Airforce uniforms, carrying musical instruments.
We were now in an area where we had never been before, but there was a plaza, and a large church, with huge doors, lots of people waiting around.
The band members went into a building, off to one side, so we went for a look.
The sculpted stone plaque, said:
The House of the Society of the Canarian Hat.
Christine will post a picky, at some point.
Anyway now it was time for the parade to start, Drums in the distance, coming closer each minute. It was the Roman Cohort.
As the Romans got close to the church, the huge doors opened, and the first of the “Thrones” came out, along with all the people with the big pointy hats.
We could see that there were more of these rolling ( Yes, these had wheels)
Carriages inside the church, waiting to be rolled out.
Well the first one only got about 30 meters from the door, then stopped.
We thought that it was part of the spectacle, suddenly one of the chaps with the red pointy hats, hastily made his way back to the church, to talk to one of the guys with a big black pointy hat and a big silver staff, They then went and had a word with a guy wearing a red pillowcase thing.
Turned out, that despite all the organization that had gone into the preparation of the parade, from the teams that were inside the carriages, to the uniforms of the Romans, the band etc, nobody gave a thought to the traffic bollard, that prevented unauthorized vehicles entering the Church Plaza! :woohoo:
So now there was a frenetic search for the key that opened the padlock, that allowed them to drop the bollard, so the carriages could get out onto the road.
45mins later, it was done, and the guy with the big black pointy hat banged his big silver staff into the ground with 3 resounding bangs, and the parade set off, and very impressive it was, too!
Thankfully there were no more mishaps.
The Best Laid Plans etc.
