Error code 45

Start by cleaning the contacts to that relay. May be off just enough to trip the fault, but still enough connection to function. Also it wouldn't be a bad idea to clean the main ground under the starter cover.

Relay terminals have been cleaned, but no change. The wiring mod for the start relay had also been done. This has now been changed back to original just in case that might have been the cause. But this made no difference.
I would have thought a problem with the main ground connection behind the starter cover would have affected more tha one crcuit in the ECU checks. But it's worth checking anyway.

Move your main ground to the gearbox mounting bolt just above it - this is another cause of woe, including snapping off the hex stud for the main earth trying to get it properly tight so it is a good earth. All my electrical gremlins have been poor earth and one event of a dirty charging fuse (not charging the battery, funny that - NOT!).

This is on a friend's Bellagio, but all these things have been checked. Just odd that this error code is always current, though the bike starts with no problems and runs. What we don't know is just what check the ECU does on these components. What window of acceptance is there? I can only assume that it sees a slightly higher resistance to ground that it expects. An additional earth has been added to the ECU case too.
Yes, I would agree that most electrical gremlins are the result of a poor connection somewhere, not components failing. I tell everyone to spray electrical contact cleaner and lubricant into every electrical connection and switch they can find. I have certainly found it reduces the number of problems.

Now that you mention it's a Bellagio, I decided to look up the code. It says:-

Remo. Error DC Start-up Gnd - ECU 45

What does Remo. stand for, I wonder? Relay?
