Extra Fuel

I am in the process of planning a trip for this fall that will entail some long stretches between fuel stops. I'll need a range of 200 - 220 miles. Care to make some suggestion as to the best way to carry extra fuel without modifying the bike itself? The 2 options I am looking at now are the rotopax and several large MSR bottles strapped to the panniers. Are there options I am missing (short of ghetto engineering - ie tie some lawn motor cans to my license plate, etc)?

Thanks!

Other than using an 1100/1200 Breva/sport or Norge, the rotopax looks like the safest way. I don't think I'd like to ride around with several Molotov cocktails strapped to my bags.

I took my Stelvio for a ride from Manchester to the lake district. Loved the ride but the tank range is pretty poor for this style of bike. I will be doing the RBLR1000 organised with the Iron Butt UK in June. I don't fancy being in the highlands of Scotland at silly o'clock in the morning with the reserve light flashing. So I have obtained a 10 litre metal petrol can and filler spout which I am going to strap to the pillion seat.

I tend to average about 10 miles per litre, approx 45mpg, with mixed riding and terrain. Last october I did a tour of northern Scotland, and knowing how far apart fuel stations are I got an alloy fuel bottle (600ml) from a camping shop and it fitted neatly into my 'Tool Tube'. I was with two other bikes, a Triumph Thunderbird Sport and a KTM 640 Supermoto. It was the guy on the KTM who was worried about running out as his tank was quite small, he ran out of juice after about 135 miles, my spare stash got him to the next petrol station about 8 miles away.
