Hi All!,
First post on the Guzzi site. Hope to have my profile finished with a pic of my bike this week once I've got my bike back together.

I purchased my California 1400 Custom with 5000 miles on it and as I'm cleaning her up I'm noticed makings on the front forks. The only conclusion I can come to are rock dings but they would have to come from a vehicle very close to the bike considering where the marks are. They're not dings more like a marring. Feels like the forks have a clear coat on them so I was concerned about using a metal cleaner/polish. Pictures included

Anyone else experience this issue?
What is the finish on the fork?
Any Idea on how to make less noticeable?

Thanks!

I've got them on my Cali too. Typical road rash caused by stones being flung in the air by a vehicle in front of you, or perhaps even from your own front wheel.

I've been considering polishing the clear coat off, but I'm not about to pull the forks just for that exercise. Too difficult to do in place.

As Dave says, it's minor rock chips, which damage the thin powder-coated clear, then moisture gets in and clouds the finish. You could wet sand and buff, and just hit them with a metal polish once or so a month... or, I'm considering doing a pattern to offer a 3M clear film protector in clear or black for the custom. Interest?

I'll probably wait until they get really bad before I take off the clear coat. The clear vinyl is actually a good idea but now that they're blemished it wouldn't make sense to put it on. I actually put matt black vinyl on the hood of my 4Runner and its fairly simple. If I'm not mistaken I think there's a chrome version also. If anyone is thinking about purchasing a California 1400 consider the clear vinyl!
