Fitting center stand

Hi there, my bike is a 2015 V7ii and I'm about to fit a Hepco and Becker center stand. The instructions say remove the frame cross member. Now this cross member is adjacent to the side stand and appears relevant to its rigidity. Will I be able to use the side stand for support whilst I do the job or will I need wait while wifey is available to hold the bike up whilst I swap them out.
It would be ironic if I really needed a portable stand to fit the center stand.

I used a front wheel stand to install the H&B centre stand on my V7-III Stone. Secured in the stand with tie down straps, I then used a jack to lift the rear wheel as high as I could to gain access for the installation.

Front wheel stands aren't that expensive, you will use it time and tme again. If you don't want to buy one, perhaps you can borrow one?

I might try it with the wife's assistance initially. I suppose I should have given this more thought as a front wheel stand would have been cheaper than the center stand. Just didn't want another thing to store as space in the garage is diminishing.
A question for Steve. Which bolts are you referring to when you say 'rail bolts'?

While front stands are cheaper, they are not a substitute for a centre stand which allows you to spin either wheel (some lifting involved for one of them) so you can check for potential puncture causing nails and screws, and also handy when washing your bike.

If I could have found a cheaper alternative to the H&B stand, I would have gone for it, but the exhaust pipes prevented getting a stand on the bottom rails, and of course a normal rear stand won't work because of the bevel box.
 
One goes through the tube you are replacing the other goes through the engine case in the front. Both are long, I did not loosen the 2 in front on ea side connecting them to main frame.
 
Thanks Dave and Steve. Just to update the thread, I ended up supporting the bike by using ratchet straps round the garage roof trusses and through the centre of the handlebar mounting points. I was surprised how solid it was to work on.
The stand came with an additional bracket which supports some sort of filter canister fitted to later models (mine is a 2015 V7ii special). I found that this bracket fouled on a pipe between the exhausts so I needed to hacksaw the end of the bracket off.
The only way to access the nut which prevents the stand from rotating is as the instructions say, with a 1/4" drive socket a long extension and a universal joint. There is no other room for spanners.
The supplied spring is super strong although I've got a spring puller my weakling muscles couldn't get it on. I found the only way to get enough leverage with a screwdriver was to remove the RHS muffler. Then I could attack it straight on instead of above or below the muffler.
