Hi, people
My first post here on the forum! I have a LeMans 3 up in the middle of Norway.

A couple of days ago I fried my regulator, by trying to start the bike with a semi flat battery. I have since found out on other forums that this is a "normal" way for these things to work
I loved the extra charging the thing provided over the standard separate regulator and rectifier. Does anyone have any good alternatives?

Hey, thanks!
Specially the Euroumotorelectrics looks great.

I was down to the people I bought the Electrex RR45 of today and they said I should look for faults in the stator winding as another possible cause of the short circuit. I don

Here is my two cents:

You've confirmed my belief that all in one regulator/rectifier boxes are the work of the devil .

They don't produce more power and are unfixable. Epoxy potted black boxes should be avoided at all cost.

I like the look of Motoelekct's revised regulator and rectifier pack. The regulator is cheap ($30) and adjustable which is pretty much the only way to get more power out of the standard system and necessary if you use gel cells. If it does fail at least you can jumper across the box and you will get home (indeed given the low output of the bosch system it will pretty much perform as normal). Of course you can use virtually any regulator as available at your local auto parts store.

Their rectifier looks more robust than the original and is not overly expensive ($90) and you can fix it in east nowhere with a soldering iron.

The best way of dealing with the guzzi system short of fitting the Motoelekrics higher power system or a belt driven alternator is to fit LED lights where you can and a geared starter - again motoelektric seem to have a good alternative to the fragile Valeo.

I don't see how a low battery could ever damage a regulator or rectifier. A shorted stator maybe. More than likely they just dont want to give you a new box.

Jupp, I checked the whole generator both for resistance between windings and a high voltage (1000v) ground check a guy at work had. Everything measured per. spec.
After this experience I share with you a strong inclination toward the good olde
